Metal-over-Shingle Roof — Black

May – June 2026 · 10 photos

Battens strapped over shingles, black metal panels, chimney flashing.

We put this metal roof right over the existing brown shingles. The first step was strapping the roof with wood battens laid across the old shingles, from the eaves up to the brick chimney.

A silver foil layer went down ahead of the panels. Then the black ribbed panels went on, screwed down along the battens and run from eave to ridge. Where a lower roof section meets the main roof, trim covers the joint.

The brick chimney got its own flashing, fitted tight against the brick on the front and both sides. The finished roof is black metal top to bottom.
