A deck, porch and new roof for a mobile home
Decks & Porches · 5 min read ·
A manufactured home can get a raised deck, a roof over that deck and new shingles on the main roof in one project. We did all three at the side door of a gray manufactured home between August 19 and August 25, 2026.
Start at the door people actually use
The front door on a lot of manufactured homes is not the one the family uses every day. Here it was the side entry, so that is where the new deck went: raised up to the door height, with posts, frame, deck boards and wood railings all in by the first photos on August 19.
Building at the everyday door means groceries, boots and visitors all come through somewhere solid and dry. That one choice shaped the rest of the job.
Tall corner posts, planned from day one
The corner posts on this deck stand well above the railing. That was on purpose. We knew from the start a roof was coming, so the posts that carry the deck also carry the porch roof.
Planning both at once matters. Adding a roof to a finished deck later can mean new posts or reworked framing, which is why our porch cover or open deck note says to decide on the roof before the first post goes in.
From open deck to covered porch
By August 21 the porch roof was framed over the deck. Stairs with wood railings went down to the yard, and the underside of the new roof got a white ceiling, which is what turns a deck with a roof into a porch that feels finished.
How a porch roof meets a manufactured home depends on the home itself, so that connection is something we look at in person rather than guess at from a photo.
The re-roof, same crew and same week
Up top, we re-roofed the home. Underlayment went down first, then new gray shingles were run across the roof and capped at the ridge. The photos from August 24 show the shingles going on over the underlayment.
If you want the detail on that layer, our underlayment and ridge vent note explains what sits beneath new shingles. The roofing side of our work is on the shingle roofs page.
Why bundle the work
One site visit and one schedule covered a deck, a porch and a roof. The ladders and materials were already on site, and the owner dealt with one contractor instead of three.
You can see the whole sequence on the mobile home project page. Our photos of that job run from August 19 to August 25, 2026, from the first framing to the capped ridge.
What to sort out first
Before we price a job like this, we look at the door height, where the stairs should land, how the porch roof will meet the home, and what shape the existing roof is in. Check with your township about anything they want to see before a deck or porch goes up.

Questions
Can you build a covered porch on a mobile home?
Yes. A manufactured home can get a covered porch built on a new raised deck. In August 2026 Schaub and Sons built a raised deck at the side entry of a manufactured home, used tall corner posts to carry a new porch roof, added stairs with railings, and finished the underside with a white ceiling. The roof connection is checked in person for each home.
Can a mobile home get a new shingle roof at the same time as a new deck?
A manufactured home can get a new deck and a new shingle roof in the same project. Schaub and Sons did both on one home in August 2026: a raised deck and covered porch at the side door, plus underlayment and new gray shingles across the main roof, capped at the ridge. The job photos run from August 19 to August 25, 2026.
What goes under new shingles on a manufactured home re-roof?
On the August 2026 manufactured home re-roof by Schaub and Sons, underlayment went down across the roof first, and new gray shingles were run over the underlayment up to the ridge, where the roof was capped. The underlayment is a protective layer between the roof deck and the shingles. Schaub and Sons reviews the existing roof before pricing a re-roof.
